Wes Doherty:

Volunteer

Wes was born in Co Kilkenny, Ireland in 1977. After studying in Dublin, he moved to Manchester in 2000 with a plan to stay for around 12 months. Fortunately for us, Wes fell in love with the city and is still here 10 years later.

Wes works as an optometrist in a number of different practices, dealing with a wide range of patients visual needs and ocular health.

Why did you decide to volunteer for Survivors Manchester?

I was one of the original founding trustees of Survivors Manchester, but due to other demands, I was unable to give the time I wanted to give to such an important charity and cause.

Therefore, when the opportunity arose to volunteer when I can give time, I jumped at the chance and decided to become a volunteer so I can still contribute to the important work of the charity.

What would you like to see Survivors Manchester do in Manchester?

Be as great as I know it can be!

I have already seen the huge impact SM has made in peoples lives even in it's early stages. With time this level of service could be available to all who need it. With the drive and motivation of the board of directors I believe this will be the case.

Do you have a message for Greater Manchester residents?

As I said, I have been privileged to have already seen the huge impact Survivors Manchester has made on peoples lives, even in it's early stages. Support us when you can, don’t let silence win!

What’s your favourite thing about Manchester?

My favourite thing about Manchester is its friendly atmosphere and the diversity. Great theatres and places to hang out.
