Fundraising & Finance

Back

Every year, We Are Survivors supports over 2000 male survivors, receiving approx 2 brand new requests for support every single day of the year – that’s over 700 men that access our support for the first time. Year on year, more and more people need our help and that means, as a charity, we need to constantly grow to meet the demand on our services.

There are so many ways we can work together to break the silence around sexual abuse. Whether you’re on your own victim/survivor healing journey; you’re the partner of a survivor, friend or family member of a male survivor; or you simply want to support the vital work we carry out – you can play your part.

Check out our Fundraising Pack below for lots of great ideas for helping raise money for us!

Corporate Support

As a corporate partner, your involvement is vital for us to continue supporting boys and men across the Northwest who have been affected by unwanted experiences of sexual abuse. From building awareness of our work to providing essential funds for our support services, our corporate partners enable survivors to break their silence and look to positive futures.

There are many ways in which corporate supporters can get involved – from Charity of the Year partnerships and pay-roll giving, to sponsorship and volunteering. We can also offer tailored training and workshops to help employers better understand and support male victims of sexual violence in the workplace.

If you, or an organisation you work for would be interested in supporting us, then please contact our fundraising team by emailing [email protected].

Leaving a gift in your will

Leaving a gift in your will to We Are Survivors will help us to continue to support and change the lives of male survivors of sexual violence for years to come. Research suggests that on average, male victims of sexual abuses take 20+ years to break their silence. For every person accessing our services, we know there are thousands more on a journey towards healing who deserve the very best support. Leaving a gift in your will ensures that We Are Survivors will be ready and able to support male survivors in the future, whether accessing individual talking therapy, coming to a drop-in or attending a creative session to help make sense of their experiences.

If you’re considering a gift for We Are Survivors in your will, thank you. Here are the different options for the type of gift you can leave in your will:

  • A share of your estate: A percentage share of your estate once all other gifts and expenses have been settled. This is the most valuable type of gift as it retains its value over time. This is called a ‘residuary gift’.
  • A fixed sum of money: This can be any amount you choose and is called a ‘pecuniary gift’.
  • A specific item: This can include items such as jewellery, stocks and shares or property and is called a ‘specific gift’.

How to leave a gift in your will… a few important things to consider:

  • Make sure it’s legal: We recommend using a solicitor to write or update your will. If you are looking for a solicitor in your local area, you can find one by contacting the Law Society. If you are in England or Wales please visit www.lawsociety.org.uk or, if you are in Scotland, go to www.lawscot.org.uk
  • Include our details: To ensure your gift goes to the right place, make sure you include our full address (We Are Survivors, Unit 9, Brewery Yard, Deva City Office Park, Trinity Way, Salford, M3 7BB) and our registered charity number (1144941).

Annual Accounts

As a charity, we are transparent with our financial activities, that’s both what money we have coming in and what we’re spending and on what, after all it is so often public money that we are spending – whether that is through a government grant or money that someone has generated through fundraising activities. We have a commitment to ensuring that everything we spend is value for money and that we are spending wisely.

To give you an idea of how much it costs to run We Are Survivors, we have broken our summary costs down below:

Workforce

The workforce at We Are Survivors includes those tasked with the governance, management, supervision, service delivery, maintenance and administration of the organisation.

The cost of this is £600,500.00

Central

To deliver services, we have an office building (office, counselling rooms, group space), utilities, equipment, comms (tel, WiFi)  insurance, memberships, licences, etc.

The cost of this is £150,000.00

Project

We Are Survivors works in conjunction with different organisations, commissions different consultants to work on various projects, all that will support us to meet our charitable objectives.

The cost of this is £100,000.00

We are required by law to submit our accounts every year to both Companies House and the Charity Commission for England and Wales, which are checked by an independent accountant and ratified by our Trustees at an Annual General Meeting. All our accounts are public record and can be obtained by clicking here.

We also produce an annual report which not only includes our financial statement, but also a more detailed account of what we have been doing in that particular financial year. You can see our latest Annual Report below:

Funders

Since we opened the doors, we have been generously supported by a number of funders, from local NHS to national grant givers and government funds. Every penny we spend from funders is under ‘restriction’ and can only be spent on the items we detail in the grant application or in the contract and agreement.

Our key funders include Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Lloyds Bank Foundation, NHS England, Manchester Health Care Commissioning, Ministry of Justice, The 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust, The Peter Kershaw Trust, the Zochonis Charitable Trust, the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund and Zurich Community Trust.

A Huge Thank You!

Thank you so much from all of us at We Are Survivors: from our CEO, our trustees and most importantly from our fellow survivors for taking the time to look at the site, for thinking about supporting us and please, tell others that we’re here… you may just help a guy break the silence and that is the biggest gift you could give.
