Support:
Research has shown that there is a significant disparity between the physical and psychological health of men and women in the UK. It seems that men are not accessing the health and support services available in the same way that women are. The view is that this is not down to the fact that males in the UK are any healthier then their female counterparts, far from it!
Like many other professionals interested in men’s health and wellbeing, we at Survivors Manchester believe that the pressure we can sometimes feel, often perpetuated by society, to act in a certain way (such as suppressing his emotions and not showing his true feelings, keeping that 'stiff upper lip') goes someway to explain this disparity. This idea of what a man ‘should be’ can often perpetuate a silence, both verbal and behavioural and keep us quietly suffering. This is especially true as victims and survivors of sexual abuse and rape.
Survivors Manchester was established in order to support male survivors of sexual abuse and rape in Manchester, helping to help men break that silence and end the suffering!
This section of the site has been written and designed specifically to provide signposting advice and information on services that will give you the best possible opportunities to start or continue your own healing process.
We know it takes guts to ask for help and can be a really difficult thing to do. But take it from people that know, once you do then it can be the moment life changes for the better.
Remember… break the silence, it stops with us!
