Happy Birthday Survivors Manchester
Well what can I say, except… WOW, words actually escape me and for those of you who don’t know me I am rarely stuck for something to say. SURVIVORS MANCHESTER is 10 years old!!!!!! It truly has been a roller coaster ride from day one.
When a lifelong dream to provide a greatly needed service for male survivors not only comes true but flourishes and grows beyond all expectations its a once in a life time event. I know how proud I am, so I can only imagine the pride, Duncan, our Chief Exec, Founder and we must not forget survivor himself, must be feeling reaching a birthday of double digits! Its truly exceptional and simply amazing.
I haven’t been involved quite from day one but I know you will hear from others who have, but I certainly have been on this journey from almost the beginning. I have seen many changes in the provider landscape, organisational structures and national architecture, change over the years but nevertheless Survivors Manchester has weathered the storms and of course also enjoyed the sunshine.
We have too many supporters to thank individually but from the commissioners and policy makers, to the partners and likeminded leaders to the staff team, board and Ambassadors, I personally thank you from the bottom of my heart. I could not write any piece of course without emphasising we are a survivor led organisation and our survivors, who we are here to support and help, make all the hard work, challenge and sometimes struggle worthwhile.
For every person we help in #breakingthesilence we have done what we set out to do, let no single person suffer alone!
Watching this organisation grow, develop, expand and even in the face of adversity, stand tall and strong, not only fills me with joy and gratitude, it also has made me a better person. We change the world by action and not by opinion and in a world sometimes full of hate we must not stand by in blissful ignorance, we must make our voices heard. I believe we must be the ones to try and make that difference, no matter how small. We maybe small to some but the size of our ambition and our international reach makes us giants in our profession. I am looking forward to the next 10 years and what surprises and opportunities the decade will afford us.
