The Safe Room in HMP Risley

06.05.14 | News

On the day that the broadsheets report that Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Justice, has blocked all attempts by researchers undertaking an independent inquiry into the extent of rape and sexual assault in Britain’s prisons (see The Guardian and Independent); here at Survivors Manchester, we are so proud to be able to release our report on the first ever peer-support group in a UK prison for male survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation.

We are so grateful to the Governor of HMP Risley – Mr Jerry Spencer; Head of Reducing Re-offending – Mr Stewart Hopkins; and the Belief in Change team, headed up by Mark and Lorna.
Most importantly, we’d like to thank the lads that took a chance on getting involved – we well and truly broke the silence!
