And The Winners Are…
Last night, Survivors Manchester became the proud owners of a brand new award – The Spirit of Manchester Award – Most Successful Campaign – for our #breakthesilence campaign which saw us challenge the Ministry of Justice’s decision to negate boys and men from the Rape Support Fund, help bring about the Male Rape Support Fund and working with Hollyoaks and our amazing designers at JAMCreative, get the message out to the boys and men of Manchester that its ok to ask for help and support.
Shortlisted in the same category were two other worthy nominees – Ancoats Dispensary Trust and MacMillian Community Cancer Awareness Project. Congratulations to both organisations for their nominations and the amazing work they both do.
Speaking after the announcement, Survivors Manchester CEO, Duncan Craig, said:
I’m gobsmacked! What started as sending a few letters to the MOJ and asking others to do the same grew and grew until we were in direct contact and engaging in what became a healthy debate and consultation. The result was the ring fencing of £500,000 for services specifically dealing with the rape and sexual abuse of males – the first ever male rape support fund which was announced in February 2014 and details of how to apply should be announced anytime soon I’m hoping”.
Its been an amazing week for Survivors Manchester’s #BreakTheSilence Campaign with their first ever exhibition that was curated by Manchester based designers, JAMCreative. Designer, Richard Pay emailed
Congratulations on the win! Very well deserved. It’s been an absolute pleasure working on this campaign with you guys! Long may it continue.
Since the campaign began in February 2014, Survivors Manchester has received a staggering 102 requests for support, 10% more than in the same period last year and September isn’t even finished yet!
We would like to thank Dave and Richard at JAMCreative for all their hard work, help and support throughout this campaign and for creating some incredible visuals; to Lucy, Chelsea, Bryan, Jess, Matt and the team at Lime Pictures and Hollyoaks – in particular James, Keith, Lizzie and Charlie for the most incredible performances that have literally helped BREAK THE SILENCE; and to all the men that have come forward and trusted us to support them through these difficult times.
